The Dynamics of Juvenile Delinquency in the Digital Era and the Implementation of Islamic Guidance and Counseling at MAN 3 Indramayu

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical transitional period prone to deviant behavior. In the digital era, the form of juvenile delinquency has transformed from conventional to technology-based, one of which is the rampant phenomenon of online gambling among school students, as identified in MAN 3 Indramayu. This study aims to deeply examine the forms of juvenile delinquency in the digital era, the factors causing student involvement in online gambling, and the implementation of Islamic Guidance and Counseling (BKI) services in addressing these issues. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were comprehensively collected through interviews, observation, and documentation techniques. The research findings indicate that the form of juvenile delinquency at MAN 3 Indramayu is dominated by online gambling activities via smartphones and the unwise use of social media during the learning process. The causal factors consist of internal factors (high curiosity, weak self-control, instant profit orientation) and external factors (peer influence, easy internet access, and lack of parental supervision). Guidance and counseling teachers implement Islamic Guidance and Counseling through individual counseling, religious guidance, spiritual monitoring (muhasabah and tazkiyatun nafs), and building synergistic ecological collaboration with parents and the surrounding community. The Islamic Guidance and Counseling approach based on religious values and character strengthening is proven to be an effective preventive, curative, and developmental strategy in strengthening student self-control and minimizing deviant behavior in the digital era.
